Oh, bother: The internet makes us shout at people at the wrong time.

Of course I want you to read my link. It's a genuine question. Two facts are not in dispute.

1) The scientific community rejected Semmelweiss' theory wrongfully.

2) Semmelweiss was admitted to a mental institution and died there probably after a severe beating.

I am asking about the causal link between the two (causal links being the center of any story), because I don't see it from the wikipedia page.
