One of the existing grid links is an underwater high voltage D.C. cable from the west of Scotland direct to North Wales beneath the Irish Sea. Links don’t HAVE to be on pylons over land. And offshore wind farms can be interlinked underwater in the same way down the North Sea, bypassing England’s grid. Solutions shouldn’t be constrained by National Grid crying that ‘this is how we’ve always done it’.
