to make matters worse, i think our memcpy wasn't actually *named* memcpy, i think the compiler just looked at our atomic_memcpy function, was like "oh hey… this looks like a memcpy! i know how to memcpy! i'll replace it with my own version! it's better it's OPTIMIZED"
