I'll tell you why. They're terrified about nuclear energy because they don't understand a bit of it. All they know is radiation bad, and nuclear fuels give off radiation. They'll look at Fukushima and think it proves that mankind is doomed if they continue using nuclear energy, when in fact far fewer people were harmed by the accident than people get harmed in a coal mine to produce the same amount of energy Fukushima produced.

We're dealing with ignorant people. Ignorant people have cherry picked a few bits of science here and there and they've constructed an ideology/religion for other ignorant people. They don't even know how to explain global warming/climate change. All they know is to point at a temperature graph, but that's not how we know an excess of CO2 is bad. We know that CO2 is bad because we have laboratory experiments and measurements that show us how the concentration of CO2 affects warming. For years I've wondered why scientists didn't conduct such controlled experiments and published them, only to discover they did do that, a looooong time ago in fact. I just never knew about it, because these alarmists are literally too stupid to even gather up all the evidence and present it.

Even the buzz words they use are wrong, stupid and confusing the matter. They'll say things like "carbon neutral", but it's not the element carbon we give a fuck about. It's CO2. Carbon in the atmosphere would basically be soot, and it would block out the sun. Even the mixing around the terms "global warming" and "climate change" as if they're synonyms shows their ignorance. To be closer to reality we should be saying "climate change due to global warming" each and every time. Because yes, global warming can cause paradoxical events like much stronger blizzards. Only saying "global warming" doesn't paint the whole picture, not by a long shot, because the effect is actually introducing more energy in the global weather system, which just makes things more unstable. So you get storms with more energy (aka more powerful) than expected, whether it's during the summer or winter. Then there's the moronic habit of "this devastating hurricane was clearly caused by global warming". No. We're decades off from actually being able to identify if and when a particular weather event would not have existed at all. At best, we currently can look at past storm trends, look at their average power, compare them with current storms, and conclude they're X% more powerful.

There's so much more to be said, and it all annoys me to no end. From the piss-ass way they try to "educate" people of reality, to the measures they propose, they constantly prove that they are complete ignoramuses.
