No. They are not the same. "Try" implies failure. If someone asks you for something, there is a completely different feeling when replying, "I'll do it.", compared to, "I'll try."
Although it may be silly to quote a movie, Yoda's words of "Do, or do not, there is no try.", comes from sources in human history.
