A few days ago we found out by accident that there's a primary election happening today in my city!
We had noticed campaign signs appearing a few weeks ago, but just figured it was the whole, "people are campaigning way too early" thing.
This is the danger of being hyper-online but not really hooked into anything local!
Neither of us spend any time on Facebook, we don't have a newspaper sub, and things like Mastodon/Reddit/YouTube/etc are all global.
It's way too easy to miss local stuff.
