At work I'm on the brink of getting a promotion. It's been 2 years in the making. I'm sure I'll get a raise.
But all that my mind can do is ruminate on the possibility that the pay increase will be insufficient, that I will decline the promotion, and instead give my two weeks' notice. I won't find a new job. I won't be able to pay rent. I'll lose all my belongings, become homeless and friendless and FINALLY become the unequivocal loser that I've always felt like I was.
