In this period I became a tourist of editors in the nascent Free and Open Source software world (though this was before the #FOSS/#FLOSS/#Libre debate was fully opened). I used several versions of vi, JOE, JOVE, JED, GNU Emacs, primitive editors in the Xt/Xaw traditions, and several more.
It was in this period (say, 1994-1995) that I settled on a software stack that I would use for decades with little modification: fvwm, rxvt, mutt, and jed.
