In the fullness of time, I discovered #Linux; that's another story, but my first dip into this territory was through #Slackware. Slack offered me the chance to really learn about an editor as an important application in its own right. I started with #vi (which the historical archives suggest was probably #vim, although I am certain I remember other vi clones), but found that, in my youth and naïveté. it wasn't quite what I wanted. I thought I wanted a "simple" editor, like EDIT.
