I would say inequality on its own, is a good measure to show a tendency towards authoritarianism. Since those at the top will have to spend less of their wealth to bribe the majority.
And the definition of poor can be a different measure, how well an economy is working. But I think inequality on its own also shows the level of centralization of power in a way.
