If you're willing to put your nsec into amber, I don't see how it's different than putting it into wisp. They're both open source and both times you only have to do it once.
If wisp is a client you enjoy I think you should just take the one time risk of handling the key material, it seems like an extremely small deal to me. If you get the APK from GitHub you can verify the hashes and everything
