I also farm on a very small scale and began at 59 twelve years ago. I learned by reading, thinking and from our traditional neighbour. I think we were lucky to be able to buy at the very bottom of the market or I couldn’t be doing this. So lifetime tenancy would be ok for us but learning how to farm a bigger spread wouldn’t be so easy since ag colleges seem fixed on big machinery and big inputs. Apprenticeship at any age might be good….
