I don't think these questions adequately reflect what America is. There have always been two competing tendencies There's a tendency toward democratization, and one toward (white, male, christian) oligarchy. Both those tendencies can be seen in the founders, who wanted the American people to govern themselves, but who had a very narrow view of who was fit to govern. We're seeing the oligarchic tendency very nakedly revealed in Trump, and the democratic tendency on the streets.
