Bitcoin is Freedom Money - decentralized, permissionless, unfonfiscatable, sovereign, peer-to-peer, limited to 21 million Bitcoins
This means that the Bitcoin network transfers value, it transfers Bitcoin.
Non-monetary transactions are spam. Bitcoin is valuable as Freedom Money, not database for general storage.
The idea of OP_RETURN was that the network can sustain small abuse of say 40 Bytes, used for storing a hash and that hash can be used as evidence of external data at this point in time.
The problem is that then it got to 80 Bytes and now to 100 000 Bytes, quite an abuse of more than 1000 times.
Huge blockchain makes Bitcoin more centralized, the way shitcoins with huge blockchains are run by only few very expensive computers. Scammers don't care but genuine Bitcoiners want Bitcoin to separate money from state and be there after hundreds of years.
