Seriously, I don't even know how to process what it means that my ancestors came to the brand-new state of "Iowa" & settled on land there. They were squatters, joining a great crowd of people being sent out with promises of great prosperity to keep indigenous people from their homes & permanently wrest the land away from them. Whatever else they may have done, THAT I know for sure.
No, I don't feel guilt for things other people did long, long before I was born, but I certainly feel disgust.
