A 2018 law restricting the use of unpaid internships should have led to their demise.... but:
recent research by the Sutton Trust indicates they are still widespread & as such continue to be a major impediment to career choice/advance for the children of parents/families not rich enough to subsidise an 'employer' by covering the worker's living costs for an extended period....
But hey, Rachel Reeves likely sees such a law/limitation as a brake on growth!
