i run my home services on bare metal - they don't all run all the time and those that do are quite lightweight - but sadly need a vm for some classes where we run specialized linux distros or are required to do stuff that compromises a system's security. so i don't need huge speeds but it's annoying when i find my vm stopped or when input lag is more than a second.
