That's why I think it matters whether a "serious" film supports its own premise or whether it relies on appealing to the pre-existing feelings of its audience: getting caught up in how good it feels to have your own thoughts "confirmed" is a fucking dangerous mental habit.

Sometimes it's "harmless" or even "a good message", but it can teach you to be satisfied & comfortable with whatever it is that you "know" & believe. You can come to feel that you don't need external input or reality-checks.
