I've decided to replace "spoiling the child" with "instiling entitlement".

I previously had simply stopped saying "spoiled", because it doesn't seem to exist. You can't treat a child too well. You can't love them too much. You cannot give them too much education, experience, fun or joy. It's simply impossible. But you can instill entitlement.

You can instill entitlement to cut lines, pinch down, hog space and take more treats than the person beside you.

You can also instill entitlement to walk away, say no, hold boundaries, be treated reasonably and be free from violence.
