Using species names as a reward for donations is indeed a problem. And I don't agree to this practice, but I can see why some would resort to it. Funding is always a problem in the global south.

As to why we honor scientists with species names, it's because it is a tradition to do so. That's how we honour our teachers and how our teachers honoured theirs. Science, especially taxonomy has its own culture and traditions too.
