#92: The Mound of Down, Downpatrick. Very hard to convey this one in a photo. It's a motte like structure with a scooped out side set atop a much larger earlier earthwork (possible hill-fort or ceremonial site). Thought to have been thrown up in a hurry by Sir John de Courcy and possibly never finished. It may have been instrumental in winning him Ulster. The larger earthwork was probably not defensible by the small number of men he had, so he built a smaller one which was. That's the theory.
