openSUSE's lack of transparency and a clear, defined road map is an issue. And I don't want to recommend a distro, where the future is always, forever, uncertain. There should at least be a "best guess", but these days openSUSE does not even offer that.
I still find it comical, that they held a contest to change their branding, picked a winner, and even that was forgotten about. -- Nothing serious, but still funny.
openSUSSE has so many side projects, that I couldn't tell you if Slow Roll will continue or if KDE development within openSUSE will, anymore than I can guarantee Yast will continue.
The last thing a newbie needs is to adopt a distro or platform, only to discover it may or may not have a future. openSUSE's continued uncertainty is more of a liability, today.
