Good news:
Progressives and conservatives, along with most moderates agree that the current healthcare system, sucks. People collectively agree that corporations should not be deciding your general well-being.
For the 1st time, I am seeing MAGA / MEGA supporters agree that universal healthcare could be a good thing.
The only problem is some of them are oddly discribing private insurance as universal healthcare. They seem to think if we all paid into the program, that the company will suddenly, do the right thing, and not deny claims anymore. 🤦‍♂️
Almost there, and yet, so very far away.

Why, Windows 7?
As a current old school Linux user, who grew up with DOS, DR-DOS, MS-DOS, and so I do recall a time when Microsoft was not "as evil" as they are, today. So I recall with the experience Windows 7 offered, allowing me to use my desktop or workstation without any of the general ads, spyware, or excessive data harvesting, you find in Windows 10 or 11.
Furthermore, when I was younger, I was dirt poor, and could not afford a high-end PC. My original Windows 7 experience was not the greatest. The idea of finally having that beefier system, running at full power with everything enabled, was an interesting experience. Kind of, "finally" type of relief, with some nostalgia.
Today, if I could, I would still use Windows 7, but mostly for old games. However, I would still connect to the internet for game patches and other random tools, that are still available. Connecting online, would simplify the experience as opposed to dual booting back and forth for stuff. Sadly, not all those games work in a VM (Virtual Machine) or Wine HQ.
What killed my Windows 7 experience was no Wi-Fi 6 drivers. Otherwise, I would be dual booting between Linux as my regular daily driver, and Windows 7 was my passive experience.

No, it is more than just, Leap. Leap, i just 1 example, out so many projects and side project and operating system builds that openSUSE keeps flip-flopping on.
Let me know, when Slow Roll is on the homepage, as an actual release, for example. And not hidden somewhere in their Wiki, for example.
Or let me know when they decide if they truly plan to kill KDE development (because I'm not a Gnome user). I recall people kept trying to offer to help, but the dev team kept claiming no one was interested.
openSUSE is a hot mess. It wasn't always like this. It's sad that it is.

It is true, because the devs have been quoted numinous times as saying so at one time or another, only to back track later.
Honestly, I feel openSUSE Dev lacks vision and likely does not know what they're doing anymore. They'll announce something today, only for tomorrow to claim that has changed, only the day after to claim it is all back on track.
They flip-flop continuously. From claiming Leap was going to be discontinued, to claiming Leap was still going forward, then discontinued, then immutable, then discontinued, then continued as normal. They've changed their minds so many times, I'm sure I'm missing one!

openSUSE's lack of transparency and a clear, defined road map is an issue. And I don't want to recommend a distro, where the future is always, forever, uncertain. There should at least be a "best guess", but these days openSUSE does not even offer that.
I still find it comical, that they held a contest to change their branding, picked a winner, and even that was forgotten about. -- Nothing serious, but still funny.
openSUSSE has so many side projects, that I couldn't tell you if Slow Roll will continue or if KDE development within openSUSE will, anymore than I can guarantee Yast will continue.
The last thing a newbie needs is to adopt a distro or platform, only to discover it may or may not have a future. openSUSE's continued uncertainty is more of a liability, today.

Once again, I want to add openSUSE to my list of recommended Linux distros for newbies, but I cannot.
The big problem with openSUSE is even openSUSE does not know what openSUSE is going to do next.
It has become a comical joke and one even the mainstream media has been caught off guard. For example, 6 months ago, even ZDnet thought openSUSE Leap 16 was going to be an immutable distro. This, after most people thought v16 was not going to happen. And today, we know v16 is going to happen, but it will be a normal distro, just like 15.6. But that may again change a few days, weeks, or months from now, since it keeps changing.

And do you add any non-free firmware, drivers, and media codecs, or do you just stick with the stock install? How many held packages do you have, and how often do you run into dependency issues or missing packages?

It took me years to accept that Debian based distros, suck as a desktop.
Debian's one advantage is because they've been around forever, you can find pretty much anything in terms of software. You cannot ignore that DEB still significantly has a much wider selection of 3rd party apps.
But Debian as a desktop is frustrating. I could easily argue that their packages are older, and I know someone would argue, that is what makes it more stable. But that is not true, regarding a desktop.
Debian's true strength is as a server. Rock solid.
But as a desktop, where you've added many different features, functions, services, and apps, you're going to run into dependency issues, even if you install no new software (keeping only the stock install). sudo apt distr-upgrade which is the basic command to update everything, is considered "taboo" within the Debian ecosystem, for a reason.
I doubt many Debian groupies have stopped and asked themselves why there are so many built in commands to fix Debian, or continuous updated guides to fixing Debian. As a previous Debian users, it was only until I stopped using Debian, that I realized, I had a lot more free time on my hands.
As I said, as a server, with minimalist needs, Debian keeps on ticking faithfully, but as a Desktop, you're better going with an RPM distro. If you're OK with a little bit of work, perhaps Arch. -- I'm not joking (I was surprised, myself). Debian is not the distro for desktops.

It should go without saying, but any digital subscription service offering a "lifetime plan" is likely not going to be around forever, or at the very least, that "lifetime plan" is not going to be around forever, despite what you believe.

Linux Mint is "OK" for the "old school" Linux user or for those people who like poking around. I can see the appeal for those people.
But generally most people want to use their PC and not "learn" their computer. Microsoft Windows, for example, was successful because you could easily click your way through Windows.
Today, some Linux distros have better hardware support or compatible hardware support. As someone pointed out, the latest GPU drivers come preinstalled in Ultramarine Linux, while you would need to track those down in Windows. And since much of what people use today, has become either web based or app based, generally much of the software has caught up too. Today, I can load Steam and automatically install, and run Windows games without any configuration - just point and click.
Mint is not exactly a point and click distro. Nor is it a completely an "out of the box" experience directly after install. And maintaining Mint is not the easiest if you wish to keep that ease of use. It does not help that Mint is 3rd inline in 3 independent developments with 2 completely independent upstreams before it. Nor does it help that they not support their Debian edition, sometimes for years (whatever Mint breaks, stays broken, and obviously, Debian updates are not going to fix Mint's customizations or configuration). You also cannot overcome the community who will ignore the GUI, if there is one, and try to get you into a sometimes a lengthy process in the terminal.
There are much better Linux distros for a Windows user looking to switch to Linux.

Do you know what I hate about online streaming?
I pay for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, Paramount Plus, Hulu, Max (HBO), Apple TV Plus, Peacock, and Crunchyroll, plus I have the additional free streaming services Tubi, Pluto TV, Plex, Roku Channel, YouTube, Crackle, Sling Freestream, and Xumo Play.
Yet, despite all this, whenever I find a show that catches my interest it will be on a ANOTHER paid service elsewhere. Online streaming now feels too much like cable television, and that is a bad thing.

Thanksgiving Lunch is served.
Turkey, baked potatoes, cranberry relish, zucchini, stuffing, biscuits, mixed vegetables (dices carrots, corn, cut green-beans, and green peas), mashed potatoes with brown gravy.
Only the brown gravy was done with a mix with the rest done from scratch. 🤯 This took me a while (started yesterday, and then the rest early this morning). I had help through. 😇

When I was struggling, it was usually at the start of the month, that I was strapped for cash. I'd save up all my paychecks, only to have dues. It eventually flipped, and like yourself, I would end up broke at the end of the month.
These days, I'm not struggling, but I am nowhere near where I want to be. I suppose that is true for most people these days.
But even when I was making good money, something always seemed to come up around Thanksgiving / Black Friday.

At first, I dreamt I was walking an empty mall, with only the hallway had lights on, and all the empty stores were dark, with their gates down. I realized I had paperwork that said, this mall was mine. Some had empty boxes, and shoes, which I had gone around loosening the lases. I'm not sure why I was doing this, but it seemed important and beneficial. I was making a second sweep through the empty mall, to be sure I had gotten everything.
Upon almost completing my pass through the mall, something caught my attention, as it looked like someone was laying behind an empty box, in one of the stores. I lift the gate, walk over, and this woman is laying face down. At first, I thought she was dead, but as I used a stick to turn her over, she starts to make some waking sounds.
I told her I was going to call for help, but she tells me not to do so. She claims she is having a hard time moving, and once again I tell her to wait, as I get help. But she said she just needs helping to move, and so I start to help her move her limbs to get her circulation going. Now getting a better look at her, I realize she is a beautiful Asian woman, who is wearing a blue dress or one piece skit.
At this point, I realize I am dreaming. Normally, this would cause me to immediately wake up. I have never been able to "lucid dream" (dream, knowing it's a dream). For the first time, I am still asleep, but aware this is a dream.
During this time, as I was helping her move her arms and legs, I notice she had no panties. I explain this to her, and she seems confused, so I once again, tell her we should get her out of there. She is still laying down, and she doesn't believe she is missing her panties, and asked me to prove it, so I quickly tap her with the back of my hand. She seems surprised, but not concerned, and asks me to lick her.
Again, I knew this was a dream, and this is the 1st time ever I can make choices in this dream, and here is this really beautiful Asian woman, asking me to lick her. I'm thinking, well, if it's going to be one of those dreams, why not?! lol
She appears to be enjoying me eating her out, and that is when she suddenly, reaches over, and stabs me in the back of the head. I pull out what looks like a mini "cake slice cutter" (see attached). The handle was about three inches long, and the slice blades only an inch long. I can feel a sharp pain, a mix of warm and cold blood gushing from behind my head. I look closer, and realize I can see small bits of brain matter on this tool, and I'm at this time wondering what kind of brain damage this may have caused, as I continue to bleed out from the back of my head.
As I am still kneeling down, trying to stop the bleeding behind the top, back, my right side of my head, I look up, and she is now standing by the door (gate), she says, "that is what you get for being a dirty pervert!" as she proceeds to close the gate behind her, leaving me bleeding out in the dark, empty store I found her. I wake up.

I have set up a few file servers, for users who also wanted to remotely connect to and use them as remote desktops. I am sure there were other functions that wanted to install and use within the GUI.
They're not common, but you occasionally have a client who wants that, and as long as they're happy, it's all good.

Arch Linux is not bad. It may not be something for an absolute newbie, but for someone with a little bit of technical skill, it can be a good platform.
For someone who was at a moderate technical skill level (not really a newbie, but not really an expert either), I would recommend EndeavourOS and, assuming they were not going to use the AUR, and stick to the repos, I would suggest Manjaro Linux too. I suppose a newbie could get away with EndeavourOS, and I have recommended it in the past, but there are different degrees of "newbies" and that is something I'm focusing on more when recommending Linux, today.

Ultramarine Linux, KDE Plasma (edition) is perfect for newbies.
1) Just like Microsoft Windows, you do not need to configure your firmware, drivers, media codecs, and sources. That is already taken care of for you.
2) Just like Windows, you can have automatic update, update notifications, or choose not to update. By default, update notifications is the default, allowing you to choose when and what to update. And you can update with a click of a button (point and click), just like Microsoft Update.
3) Installing, updating, and removing apps through the app store is point and click easy.
4) Go ahead and download an RPM setup file, and double-click to install, just like you would a Windows setup file. Updating and removing that program, can also be done through the app store, which doubles as the app manager.
5) Friendly support - Based on Fedora Linux, means you have 20+ years of documentation, live help, support forums, and chat groups, both from Fedora and Ultramarine.
Vivaldi browser, of course, can be installed using the app store or through the RPM package that you can download from Vivaldi's website.

The last time I worked in a Walmart Super Center, it was 15+ years ago. We would unload the tuck with another in wait, and everything on that truck would have gone straight to the floor, and be sold by the time we unloaded the 2nd truck. Being Walmart, prices ranged anywhere from $1-3,000 depending on the item. We sold everything from groceries to electronics, and even some ride on law mowers and appliances.

Not that anyone using an unsupported edition of Windows should be using the internet, but if it works on Windows 2000, anyone using Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 could now technically browse the web.

Earlier today, I learned Microsoft Edge would not allow me to download Vivaldi web browser. 🙄
I had to use "Chris Titus Tech's Windows Utility" to 1st download and install Vivaldi, and then I used it to remove Microsoft Edge web browser.
Clearly, Microsoft feels threaten by Vivaldi.

That isn't anything new. Apple made it first possible with Apple Bootcamp, years ago. I think Windows 7 was the 1st copy you could install on an Apple.
Personally, I wouldn't do that, since if I paid 2,500+ for a decent Apple, I'd want to use that macOS to the fullest. However, once they stopped supporting my Apple, as Apple does far quicker than I think anyone should be comfortable with, then I'd wipe it and install whatever.

It worked fine on my 11-year-old system, and I suspect your newer system should be more than OK.
FYI: If, you were installing this onto a newer Apple (M1 - M4), you'd want the Windows ARM edition. Otherwise, regular Windows 64-bit (for any Apple based on Intel).

LTSC is the successor to Windows Embedded, and just like Windows Embedded, it will install any Windows driver. I've used Windows 11, 10, and 8 drivers just fine in both Windows 10 and 11. You'll be fine.

From earlier today - Activating Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC.
Someone made a fuss, wrongfully claiming, there was no way I paid for my copy. You'd be wrong.
I may turn a blind eye to those who choose to obtain Windows by other means, since I have been burned by Microsoft in the past, so I can sympathize. But since I occasionally need to use Windows for work purposes (freelance admin), I cannot afford to take any unnecessary risk, which means owning a valid copy.

Coping 70 GB of data via a USB 2 cable (could be USB 1) is a time-consuming process. I am moving data from an SSD to HD for achieve use.
If I don't use the PC, it tells me it will take 30 minutes. If I use the PC, it tells me it could be 1–2 hours.
I forgot how slow this process can take. I should have just plugged the drive internally, but I don't seem to have another SATA cable, plus I rather not dive into my system at the moment.

Anytime someone has ever told me, that the BBC News is bias, I have asked for an example, but no one has ever been able to produce one. Ever.

These people used to the idea of their mainstream media being a little more conservative or progressive, which real news should be neither.

GitHub (Microsoft) really (really) want a phone.
I enabled 2FA and set it up so that GitHub would send a code to my email. It works, but Microsoft (GitHub) is still pestering me to enable 2-Step Verification. 🙄
I suppose I can try an Authenticator app and hope that saticfies them. I use Ente Auth as my preferred app.

BlueSky tries to organize post.
For example, right now, I was able to find your post in the Fedi general timeline. They do not have that on BlueSky. I would need to find your post in a category, and you would have to list your post in a category.
It does have an algorithm. That means not everything shows up for everyone. That means, again, this post, wouldn't have shown up on Bluesky, until I had been looking for a post in category "X" and the algorithm thought your post was something I would have liked.

I do not know what is wrong with them either. I honestly, used to like their post, but they started getting upset anytime I worried about other people.
For example, during the hurricane, I wished Kitty (the admin) well, and Alex told me to mind my own. Or if I told anyone to get some rest, Alex would mention his disability, and how wishing other people got a good night's sleep triggered them.
They've DM`ed me once or twice here and in Matrix, but they always block me, so I cannot follow up either.

1st, my opinions and views are my own.
I am not an admin or mod of Kitty Dot Social. But I would like to further chime in and say Kitty Dot Social is very accepting of people of all walks of life. Fedi instance chooses to federate with nearly everyone, including Threads.
The admin in question, over at "Ten Forward" was blocking anyone who chimed in and that included people just asking, what was going on. Anyone who did not immediately support this "admin" (troll) in his agenda, he's calling a racist in his YouTube video.
Not that anyone has ever asked, but I am part Japanese on my mother's side. My Grandmother survived the atomic bomb during world war two, married a US Soldier, and my mother was born on the US base in Japan.
Hate is not something to joke about.
Everyone is a person -this means YOU (whoever is reading this, you're a person).
Your race, skin tone, ethnic background, point of origin, gender, sexuality, identity, age, income, faith, religion, or lack there of -- You are a person, and you should have equal rights, the same as everyone else.
Packet Cat (packetcat) is person too. Be it a troll, in my opinion, but still a person.
I do not dislike or disagree with Packetcat, because of their race, gender, or anything like that. In fact, until now, I had no opinion of them at all.
I now dislike Packetcat because he is a troll, who is claiming "hate" aimed at anyone and everyone, wildly. And in his YouTube he asked "why this is happening?" It is happening because you're a tool. That is why.
And the whole nonsense about people wanting to defeat you, Packetcat. I doubt anyone thinks like that, but you, and you are doing just fine of a job defeating yourself. No one needs to fight you on anything.
Lastly, you spent 28 minutes and 12 seconds, telling people who you do not care. That is nearly 1/2 (half) an hour of you "not caring". Plus whatever extra time you took to edit your video and upload your video. -- Get a life.

The whole reason many people stayed with Firefox, despite its low market share, which is causing it to not always load pages correctly, because more web masters see it as an afterthought, was that it was the web browser of privacy and security.
Today, Mozilla is an ad company, which is bundling "features" enabled by default to monitor ad performance even if you have an ad-blocker, and is bundling A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) into Firefox. Mozilla is also working on a partnership with Meta (Facebook).

As I said, the billing seems made up. It goes regularly from 6.99 to 7.22 without me even logging into the account or storing anything. It gets even stranger when I DO use the service from a few months back.
(Note, there is no bill start or end date for the first bill. Just that it was invoiced 01/20/2027.)

Mind you, the small 23 cents (0.23) difference is not a big deal, but I'm not actually using Wasabi, but I know people do on the Fediverse do, and if you're seriously using them for storage, I have to wonder is your billing being billed accurately. Wasabi's Cloud Storage prices seem made up.
Their website claims their pay as you go is 6.99 per 1TB. Which I always thought was to go to be true. For the past couple of months they've been billing me 6.99 and 7.22, with ZERO storage being used and a single container just chilling out with no activity.
It gets funnier. The 1 time I had something hosted there and removed it, they billed me less (6.76).
Makes me wonder what will happen if I decide to use that? 🤔

Young me, didn't like that at the time, you needed an already working system to compile this onto a disk, because Linux originally had no installer. Furthermore, as someone who grew up with Dos, Dr-dos, Pc-dos, and early Ms-dos, the idea of an operating system functioning solely in a terminal, seemed like a step backward when GUI was becoming mainstream. I truly thought the Os was dead on arrival, and his pet project was only ever go to be a one-off, and if it grew in any sense, something niche most folks would never hear about or use.
I clearly was wrong and did not foresee Linux's future.

Statistically speaking, it is possible to mount a successful, winning campaign within 3-4 months. I really wish Joe Biden will see reason before the DNC Convention. If he does wait to the convention, I imagine many people will come forward at the convention, but I do not expect them all to run, but rather someone will be decided at the convention. The possibility of winning though, will depend on if the DNC picks an active progressive, who will make waves and turn heads, or will they pick a wishy-washy moderate to replace the current wishy-washy moderate.

One of my aunts suspects if Joe Biden does drop out, that he is waiting for the convention which will conclude at the end of August (August 22, 2024). This got me thinking... Since the general election takes place at the start of November (November 5, 2024), that will only give whoever replaces Joe Biden two (2) months to make a case on why people should vote for them (beyond the arguement of not being Donald Trump). It would be so much better if Joe Biden voluntarily stepped down sooner than later.

The web browser still in very (very) early development and independent from everyone is called, Lady Bird. A word of caution, it not even an alpha and still very, very early development. But, this if successful, would mean there could be a web browser not based on Blink, Gecko, or WebKit.

The most scary web browser is Brave Browser, and I strongly face palm, every time someone claims they like that browser. The last time I test Brave, it called home and reported every website I visited (they're trying to build their search index for Brave Search and use you as a bot, even if you don't use their search).
Let's not forget their CEO is racist, homophobic, and sexist. I think conservatives use that browser, just because of that.

Go ahead, and sign up for a free Next DNS account and enable logging for a bit. Close your web browser, wait a bit, and then open your web browser without visiting any website, as not to get confused with any website traffic and watch just how much your browser call out all by itself. Firefox, if left alone will keep calling home and to Google as if it were a lost child, wanting to find it's mom!

Do you know what is not good? Ads and trackers, including advertising companies, who spread their filth all over the internet, which Mozilla is now one.
If you want to support a dirty advertising company (Mozilla) and use their browser, you do you. I will stick with Vivaldi browser, who may have sponsors, but I can opt out of (how Firefox, used to be), while also blocking Mozilla's ad business on every website I visit.

I have opted to use Vivaldi Snapshot, their rolling release, which is comparable to using, Firefox Nightly.
