Copy editor here. I spent many years replacing brand names with generic words. Tissue, not Kleenex. Copy, not Xerox. The worst? Jacuzzi. I worked at a magazine where the preferred alternative was "whirlpool bath" because "hot tub" was just too declasse for our high-toned publication.
