it's not new for sure, I feel like it's gotten worse over the years I've been using CL though because we keep getting further and further away from any living practice of people using the language for anything (i.e. back when the lisp industry collapsed in the 90s) combined with the overall problems with the tech industry. LLMs in particular have accelerated all this seemingly where previously there was already a lot of superficial engagement with lisp from people who have read Paul Graham et al. talking about how it's the most advanced and powerful language ever and then not really doing much with it other than making like a couple hobbyist projects that aren't very good examples of lisp programming but also work well enough because CL is just a good enough language that you can manage to write something that works with not too much effort that implements something other languages have with less effort and code and man-hours.

admittedly though I have different motivations because I don't have a background in CS or even as a working programmer and just happen to be someone who mainly works in IT and sysadmin but knows programming and has spent years learning CL in depth purely out of intellectual curiosity, for fun, and to write software that I would like to exist. so I think more than most about these meta problems with like the culture and community and how I would like for there to be more of a coherent organized CL community of some kind to implement hard and boring things that the language really needs (either with its libraries or CL implementations themselves).

I've ended up accidentally getting a lot of transfems into CL just by talking about it a lot because I think it's cool and have sometimes speculated on trying to basically netsplit from the "community" and have some kind of transfem led collective of some sort writing useful CL software sorta like what Lix has been doing with Nix (by my reckoning at least looking at it from a distance). but as I said before I'm just a girl with various thoughts that don't have much code to back it up with so I don't feel like an individual who could make a convincing case lol.
