Y'know, I'd flip out on the mailing list too if a bunch of entrenched maintainers kept stonewalling my work and referred to it as 'cancer'. From the outside looking in, Linux's management structure has always been a bit, uh, *ad-hoc*, and as a result there have been a lot of occasions where the kernel leadership's actions have been downright embarrassing. The lack of decisive action makes this one of those times.
Either accept Rust into the kernel or don't, but waiting around for people to upstream large patches into the kernel only to NACK it just wastes everyone's time and puts people off of kernel development at a time where, frankly, Linux needs younger, enthusiastic developers. I'm not qualified to sing the praises of Rust, but the benefits of a memory safe language that brings fresh faces into the kernel seems self-evident.
