In like 2007 or something the South African government tried to curb internet freedom in the country.
People threw the baby and the bathwater at the government and they backed the fuck off.
We've been enjoying free internet (nothing banned) but have defamation and hate speech laws that can and have been enforced.
I only realised my freedom when I travelled to other countries and used sites I use in South Africa and they never loaded.
