much of the harm caused by the stock market is not the stocks but the market. Trading in shares at the rate of thousands per second is not a way to create a stable economy. Owning shares in a business is perfectly viable and can help the individual as well as the business. But shares should be long-term with a minimum holding period of five or 10 years.
Another way of achieving this is to make shares tradable only at face value with no premium allowed.
