Most Nova Scotians don't know: the Pugwash Conferences — named for the tiny village of Pugwash, NS — won the 1995 Nobel Peace Prize for nuclear disarmament work. It began in 1957 after Albert Einstein (in one of his last acts) and Bertrand Russell called for scientists to unite against nuclear weapons.
