The sad thing is that the future of cryptocurrency will be permanently stunted by Bitcoin not being money. Because eventually something else will be money, and surpass Bitcoin in value. And if that’s the case, money will always be a function of the state. Because the argument against *all* cryptocurrencies will become “well, the big thing used to be Bitcoin — but now it is this other thing. Cryptocurrencies can’t be trusted mediums of market exchange because there will always be a better one”. The crypto ecosystem has the maximum possible value with Bitcoin being the most valuable in the future, but that isn’t possible unless Bitcoin is money. Because right now it is just a greater fool’s game. And until there is a demand that Bitcoin Core actually work towards being useful money *on-chain*, then there is no situation where it will be money.
