I use Sway, (on my fw16, fitting given the thread) with a theme that matches my dotfiles I've never really felt a problem with it. (Though my theming is somewhere between super modern, user friendly UI that's still tiling like hyprland and something that would make you think it's an extension of the CLI like a lot of more minimal styles) But I absolutely see your point there.
