And I suspect that not a one of the techbro "Tolkien fans" actually likes Tolkien that much. They long ago pillaged Tolkien and turned his work into fodder for roleplaying games.
They'd probably dare to admit if questioned that they'd found his work boring to actually *read* so instead they've got PJ LOTR, full of helpful exposition and moral simplification and ridiculously prolonged action sequences, and a bizarrely flat look (flat but overstuffed with details that call attention to themselves) that suggests nothing so much as a ten-hour-long videogame cutscene.
