ultimately, I think I would like anyone who packages my software for distribution to either:
- package it exactly according to instructions, or
- talk to me about how it's packaged so I can be sure it's actually functional, or
- rename the package to something else (Firefox->Iceweasel style) so that it's not my problem when it breaks any more, or
- not package it at all
