The first storyline in #ACanticleForLeibowitz is, iirc, the original novella and while not especially hopeful per se, does have some good concepts worth contemplating. I've shared quotations with friends a few times, esp re culture and continuity/replacement.
The original novella for #ThePostman is also good, not deep but uplifting. The novel-version feels clunky and imo moves too far from the emotional tone of the novella.
