It varies a bit, but definitely more than 20. For a normal year I probably land somewhere between 50 and 60, but it can vary quite a bit, both up and down.
This has been a slow year, currently at 28.
I also read mostly Science Fiction and Fantasy.

Reading Godkiller by Hannah Kaner and enjoying myself thoroughly. I've been in a reading slump for a while, but this book seems to have pulled me out of it.
Intriguing world building, without describing everything in exhausting detail, revealing more as needed. The main characters are all described well, interesting, and not one-sided, as are the conflicts.
About halfway through now. And I haven't a clue how this will end.

I have several of them as audiobooks, the narrator, Holdbrook-Smith is fantastic imo (to my Swedish ears any rate). But I also have a lot of them as ebooks and the later ones as hardbacks.
I agree they are fun and not particularly heavy, but not shallow. It's a fun mix of urban fantasy and police procedural.

@npub1ny7…uv57 Yesterday I read Winter's Gifts, and today The Masquerades of Spring by Ben Aaronovitch, novellas in the Rivers of London series, though both are set in the US. Very different books, but both enjoyable, though I liked Masquerades best.
I also got Stone & Sky, a full length novel, but I'll probably squeeze something else in first, so I don't overdose on Aaronovitch.
These are always fun reads (or listens, as the case may be).

@npub1ny7…uv57 The girl from H.O.P.P.E.R.S, the second Jaime book in the Love and Rockets library. This is pretty much where the stories about Maggie and Hopey start properly, with the arrival of Ray, the Death of Speedy, Hopey's tour with the band, pregnancies and the utterly haunting and tragic Flies on the Ceiling.
These are stories I've already read more than a few times, though there were a couple of short ones I don't remember or have missed, but they are fantastic.

I'm continuing my recently started project of slowly catching up to where Love and Rockets is today. I'm halfway through Heartbreak Soup and really enjoying it, much more so than when I read it the first time in the 80s. I always preferred Jaime's work then, I found Beto confusing and didn't enjoy his art style that much.
I've clearly changed my mind about this because this is really good.

@npub1ny7…uv57 In the 80s I discovered Love and Rockets by the Hernandez brothers. And fell in love.
While it's been an on/off kind of relationship we're getting back together now.
I have a lot of the comics, but I've decided to pick up the trades and am in the middle of Maggie the Mechanic. The first few stories are fun, even if they don't all fit comfortably with what comes later, but you see how quickly Jaime develops as both artist and writer.

Dear @npub1ny7…uv57 people, I'm currently reading Kuang's Babel and really enjoying it. But after watching a bit of a rant on YouTube about much of modern fantasy books, I thought I'd look for some independent SFF authors to read.
What I think I'm in the mood for is low fantasy, realistic characters, no love triangles or too obvious political discussions (about our current situation), so basically escapism. Maybe something that feels more 70s to 90s, if that makes sense.

I've read Seveneves, or listened to it actually, and it was pretty good. Though I tend to miss things with audiobooks, and remember them less well after. Guess my mind wanders a little.

This book is one I was vaguely aware of, but yet another writer I never got around to read, and now you leave me with no excuse to put it off much longer. That's a good thing.

I've read some stuff by Gaiman, both graphic novels and regular novels, and he's been someone I've always respected, even if I haven't enjoyed everything he's done. For many, he has apparently been very important so this probably feels like a personal betrayal of sorts. Need I even mention Rowling for another kind of betrayal felt by many?
For me Zimmer Bradley was the worst one, both due to the alleged acts themselves and because I really enjoyed a lot of her books.

Gaiman, of course is a recent one. Arthur C Clarke, and Marion Zimmer Bradley are others. It's an impossible question, can we separate the artist from their art? Can we laud the art and condemn the artist?
Whatever the truth of allegations like these, they will inevitably change how we relate to the author and their books though.
But I should me some Heinlein again.

I've read many, or at least several, of his classic novels like Stranger in a Strange Land, Starship Troopers, Glory Road etc. The one I had problems with involved a young woman/girl who had a medical examination by her father. It was uncomfortable and gave me 'dirty old man' vibes.This was probably in the 80's. I may not have given the book a fair chance.
I've probably read something since, but I guess it would have been more of his earlier work.

I loved Heinlein when I was a kid, Citizen of the Galaxy and Double Star I reread several times. First in Swedish and then as I got older in English.
I've read a lot more, of course, but then I started one that icked me out, and I stopped reading him.

I'm amused by the fact someone named Walker has written about running. There's also a children's author named Speed who wrote about racing cars. It's silly, but I kind of like stuff like that.

I can imagine it must have been. I hadn't heard of it until relatively recently, maybe a couple of years ago or so. And soon after it came in at the used book shop where I work. Clearly a sign it wanted me to read it! It languished on my shelf for a bit though, until I started reading it a month or two ago.
I absolutely agree that the themes still resonate.
Also, no zombies or weird mutants.

After a break reading other stuff I picked up @EarthAbides again, and am about halfway in. It really shows it is one the first novels exploring a @postapoc setting, and not written after decades of fiction, movies and TV-series have made a lot of us familiar with the topic, even if we aren't preppers. The contrast is interesting.
It was first published 75 years ago, so some language and views are very dated, but with that in mind, I'm really enjoying the book.

I'm re-reading A Song for Arbonne by Guy Gavriel Kay, one of my favourite writers.
It's such a beautiful book, interesting, lovely almost deceptively simple language.
I don't want it to end, but I can't put it down.

some additional trivia from Sweden. As a kid in the seventies I had a single copy of a large format issue of Shang-Chi Master of karate. Yup, karate.
I thought it was really cool. It was a different issue to the one below though.

It's great to see that the #Pixelfed #Kickstarter is going well, I'm sure the money will be put to good use.
But I'd love to see #Bookwyrm get more attention too. I've no idea how much they get each month, or how many developers are involved, but I'm sure they would be happy to have more of both.
I'll end my sub to The Storygraph and start supporting Bookwyrm at the end of the month, but it'll be a small drop in a vast ocean.
Edit: no I won't. I'll support both.

Some books are in a hurry, they push you along. They pull on you and shout "Come, come see!"
And when they are there, when you are done and close the final page, they're already gone, skipping ahead to see what's next
Some books are slow, they take their time, and don't mind if left alone a while. They take up room, a welcome lodger, unforseen that only slowly steps away.
Both are fine, the impatient and the slow, different kinds of friends for different kinds of moods.

TIL that there is an android app for #Bookwyrm (on #Fdroid).
I've had an account on bookrastinating.com for a couple of years, but after signing up and importing my books from #TheStoryGraph it hasn't seen much use.
I intended to give it some love a few months agy, but then #InternetArchive and #OpenLibrary got hit with that attack.
But I think that's been resolved now, and the android app will make things a little easier too, so I don't really have any excuses anymore do I?

I've had four of the old paperbacks, vol 2-5 of Strangers in Paradise for years, but lacking the first one I never read them. So when I saw that Humble Bundle had everything by Terry Moore, I couldn't resist, even if I'd promised myself I should by anything more in January.
I'm halfway through the second volume now and really enjoying it.

I do track what I read, but I've stopped doing any sort of challenge and I don't rate the books. It's just a record of my reading and occasionally useful if I need to refresh my memory about a book or author. The stats and pretty graphs of my habits are fun to glance at, but unimportant.
I read for pleasure, to relax, to escape and not specifically for self-improvement, though hopefully that can sometimes be a side benefit.
I don't want my reading to become a chore.

I'm trying to convince myself that I need some sort of voice assistant, smart screen thingy. I have a 1st gen Google nest hub, used as a timer in the kitchen and for listening to the radio. Bought before I de-googled my life.
So I want to do that, but also use with my picore player and IKEA trådfri lights.
I'm not technical, I don't know how to solder or code, but my thumbs are in the right places, mostly. Suggestions?
