The advantage of leaving Windows on there is the fact you still have access to Windows. In case Linux works out, you wouldn't need that really. But if it doesn't, it might be nice that it's still there as a fallback.

You can either remove or keep Windows on there during the Linux install process. It'll give you the option to create a partition for Linux and while setting that up, you can either keep the current one that contains Windows, or wipe it all and start over.
