What's sad is that I thought he was more open to other people & their experiences than he actually is.

I've been in denial about where he is at because I wanted him to be in a different place, thinking much more critically. The reality is our "shared" concepts of how the world works are paper thin. We both look at the world & see exploitation, but that's about where the similarity ends. He's got a highly fictionalized concept of oppression that has little to do with real people's experiences.
