As a non-profit organization we are committed to being as open and supportive as possible. This means that all the code we write and every technique we use are open source and publicly available. Everything related to our members and the way we run the organization and server is also out in the open.
We are not driven by profit. Our only purpose is to ensure the sustainability of our shared goals, such as keeping the instance up and running, rather than putting them in the hands of one person.
As an instance, we are very open-minded and liberal. We do not align ourselves with any political party. Instead, we base the way we operate on safe-space principles and decent human values. We support open bridges and protocols and we do not tolerate extremism or harm of any kind. Harassing people for not using alt text or for using AI is not acceptable to us. Hate increases hate, so we try to respond with kindness. Mementomori.social's number one rule is: Be kind. That principle also extends to our association.
That being said, in the interest of openness, we do use some GenAI-assisted coding. We refrain ourselves from usin GenAI for art, whether visual or musical, in case we ever need those things.
Our official rulebook states that we encourage and support the ethical social web. To us, this means building in public with open source and supporting an open, non-commercial, user-centered social media, the fediverse.
