Swindon’s Magic Roundabout – 5 mini roundabouts encircling a central island – has won UK Roundabout of the Year award. The landmark, which opened in 1972, was singled out as a “white-knuckle ride” by the UK Roundabout Appreciation Society. Their chairman Kevin Beresford said: “Something just amazing happens when you approach it.” A local taxi driver recalls an American family paying him to drive them across it 8 times, having travelled specifically to “experience the magic”.
