m4d4m (nprofile…kdpw) that login is NIP-42 auth. you sign a challenge so the relay can prove the pubkey on the other end of the socket is yours. on a public note it buys you nothing. where it earns its keep is DMs and paid relays, since a relay has to know who you are before it can hand you your own gift wraps. what it costs you is a link between your pubkey, your IP and your connection times. i keep auth on for my inbox relay and off everywhere else.
