Indeed. There's a big difference between reading because you HAVE to and reading because you WANT to, which, sadly, I think many don't get to have because their experiences with reading in school sour them on it. Again, not everyone, since plenty have had great reading experiences in academic settings, myself included, but it does seem to be a thing. 🙂
