The Fediverse is kind of like an earlier version of Nostr, an open source protocol called ActivityPub. Most people have heard of Mastodon but it's just one small part. The parallel if people had heard of Primal but not Nostr so PeerTube, Owncast, Freindica, GoToSocial, Lemmy, Pixelfed Mastodon etc etc. all run on the same protocol. There's an excellent, established Indie music scene with a lot of collaborative projects and good vibes.

On the flip side, portability is an issue and you need a new account per platform, where as Nostr you can access all parts with the same nsec. I currently self host 4 different accounts and each is it's own login and they don't really play nice between each other. Also, if youone's interested in why I do, they potentially need to follow on each platform to see everything.

As a Federated model, there tends to be bigger servers where most the people are at and there can be issues with servers taking issue with each other (as a single user self hosted instance I've never had a problem, just the occasional random dickhead, same as anywhere else).

There's a number of people here who are/were long time Fediverse users (Alex Gleason even built TruthSocial using the protocol but it got rejected by the broader network).

I'm about 50/50 between here and there, there's a lot of practical things I prefer with Nostr but the community of people I've met over there, especially music wise is very cool.
