If you're not an old like me, you might not know this, but computers used to feel snappy - you clicked on a thing and it was immediately on the screen or moved or the button appeared pressed in on the next screen update. There weren't animations on every single hover, click, open, close, drag, etc.

Everything felt basically instant and when it didn't and there was a hang or lag, you knew the computer was doing something hard. It was working on it. It was trying its best.
