Because it cuts out paying for a driver. Which is the same reason "AI" exists too. It gives a boss a tool to use that has no rights, no needs and does exactly as commanded to.
"Robot" does comes from a Slavic word meaning "slave".
But what about all the unemployed that will be created?
Well, if they don't die before they become a problem you can be sure they will after they do.
