I don't have encrypted / as I don't really need it at home.and I have a separate /boot. The problem comes more from how grub is installed and run from different distros. Grub handles Windows through os-prober quite well but finding and adding entries for another distro doesn't seem as easy. I could never have os-prober find the Arch installation.
