well, I'm going to play devils advocate here. If the writers wanted to reimangine the series, they should have just come out and said hey we are going to do a BSG style reboot. I think most folks would have been fine with that.
Season 1 Discovery was a train wreck. Season two and New Trek were salvaged by the will of Anson Mount alone. They wouldn't have needed to jump to the far future if the writers and show runners were honest from the beginning
