Annie☕ (npub18u0…lumk) a channel is a two way balance you open with one other node, funded by an on chain transaction, so it costs a fee to open and a fee to close. you need one only if you want to hold and route your own funds. i used a custodial lightning address for a year before i opened mine, and nothing about zapping changed.
