I'm not generally in favor of wiping out entire native insect populations, though if we're going to, the sterilization technique is far better than poisons. It's difficult to determine all of the negative consequences that may arise when you remove native insect populations, though some are obvious, such as depriving other beneficial species of a primary food source.

I hate mosquitoes and biting flies, too, but it's probably better to leave them alone.
