Your laptop (I assume it's a laptop, since you mentioned suspend) unless it's one of a selected Chromebooks, or a Mac, was designed for one operating system. Windows. It might have gotten some testing for Linux later, but as an afterthought. So the experience will almost never be quite as smooth. Some vendors will cooperate, and provide drivers, but most don't bother.
