I was probably taught grammar up until about grade 4. I was in my 40’s when I started teaching, and my knowledge of grammar was much better than that of most of my younger colleagues, with the exception of a grammar nut. Most people who have learned English as a second or additional language have a much better knowledge of English grammar than native English speakers.
